WAXING FAQ
WHAT KIND OF WAX DO YOU USE?
I use both hard and strip wax. Hard wax is less irritating and painful. I always use hard wax on the face, underarms and other sensitive areas. I do use strip for larger areas of the body. I do offer a choice of waxes also.
WHY IS WAXING BETTER THAN SHAVING?
Waxing removes the entire hair shaft including the root. Shaving merely custs of at the skin level which irriated from blade and grows back faster. Waxing leaves your skin super smooth with no stubble. Waxing lasts much longer than shavingand with repeated treatments hair grows back thinner and finer.
DOES WAXING HURT?
Somewhat yes it does. Everyone has a different pain tollerance, so the amount of discomfort varies accoring to your threshold for pain. Most clients experience a decrease in pain level as they consistently wax over a period of time without shaving in between.
WHAT CAN I DO TO REDUCE THE LEVEL OF PAIN FROM WAXING?
Some clients like to take an over the counter pain reliever 30-45 minutes before treatment. There are also topical numbing creams available that you can apply 30 minutes before your appointment. Avoid caffeine before waxing. Females are advised to avoid waxing the week before and of your period if your sensitivity increases.
WHAT ARE THE CONTRAINDICATION FOR WAXING?
If you use Retin A/Tretinoin or one of the many skin prescription creams, you can still wax but it is recommended to discontinue use for one week before your waxing appointment. If you use Accutane/Isotretinoin cream you should not wax for at least 6 months after stopping use. Waxing during use of Accutane can result in tearing and damage to skin due to changes in the skin from the medication.
HOW LONG WILL WAXING LAST?
It varies for each person because we all have different rates of hair growth, and some areas of our body grows back faster than other areas. Hair grows in cycles, so make sure that all of your hair is grown out before treatment, or some hairs not long enough to be removed, will grow in a few days. For most people waxing will last form 3-7 weeks.
HOW LONG SHOULD MY HAIR BE BEFORE WAXING?
1/2 inch is the best length for hair before waxing. For most people this means waiting two weeks after shaving before waxing appointment. This is to make sure all of your hair is long enough not just some of it.
CAN I TAN BEFORE OR AFTER WAXING?
Avoid taning 48 hours before and after waxing. Waxing a new tan can result in peeling and some tan removal because waxing removes some dead skin cells. Waxing can also remove spray tans because of dead skin cell removal.
DOES WAXING CAUSE SKIN IRRITATION?
For some people with sensitive skin, waxing can cause a mild short term skin irritation. Its possible to experience slight redness and tingling sensation similar to a sunburn for a few hours. Clients with very coarse hair may experience raised bumps around the hair follicle for up to 24 hours. Sometimes waxing coarse hair in sennsitive areas may cause a little capillary to break. In general, facial waxing cause minimal to no irritation and body waxing is a little more irritating.
